Interpreting By Mode
CONSECUTIVE INTERPRETING
Consecutive interpreting is a type of real-time interpreting. It involves the sequential interpretation of short fragments of the source text. If the session length does not exceed four hours, the service is delivered by a single interpreter for each required language.
Sessions lasting over four hours are handled by two interpreters, since a single interpreter may become tired over time, which might otherwise have the consequence of allowing the quality of the interpreting to deteriorate.
This type of interpreting is commonly used during trade talks, press conferences and training sessions and requires no specialist equipment.
SIMULTANEOUS INTERPRETING
Simultaneous interpreting is a type of real-time interpreting where the target text is delivered almost simultaneously with the source text. It is used at conferences, seminars or business meetings and is usually carried out by an interpreter sitting in a booth. Ocasionally, whispered interpreting is also employed.
Simultaneous interpreters work in pairs, taking over from each other about every 30 minutes. Simultaneous interpreting is one of the most difficult interpreting assignments, requiring perfect knowledge, not just of the source language, but also of the subject terminology. Agile Translation can provide you with top-notch simultaneous and escort interpreters. We also offer whispered interpreting (real-time interpreting for one person attending a meeting).
Among our biggest assets at Agile Translation is our team of professional interpreters that specialise in areas that require an extensive knowledge of specific terminology. They have a wide range of linguistic expertise, taking in all the essential areas such as Legal, Commercial and Medical, while also covering themes as varied as military tank structure and dentistry.
OVER-THE-PHONE INTERPRETING
Over-the-phone interpreting is one of the most popular techniques for 'at a distance' interpreting, in which the communicating parties are situated in different locations. This technique is used primarily in legal and medical interpreting as well as in all types of public services. In this era of modern technology, a client need not go to a translation agency to arrange a meeting with an interpreter. Instead, he or she can choose to use this kind of interpreting service and not even be required to leave home.
